Membership
You do not need to have served to join the Legion. A great many members never did.
Membership is what keeps a branch alive between fundraisers. It pays for the day-to-day, it fills the meetings, and it is where the volunteers come from. Branch 370 is a small branch in a village with an older-than-average population, which means new members matter more here than in a city branch that can absorb the losses.
Categories
| Category | Broadly, who it is for |
|---|---|
| Ordinary | Serving and former members of the Canadian Armed Forces, the RCMP and allied forces, and others meeting the national service criteria. |
| Associate | Relatives of those eligible for Ordinary membership. |
| Affiliate Voting | Canadian citizens or Commonwealth subjects who support the aims of the Legion without a service connection. |
| Life | Conferred by the branch or Command in recognition of service to the Legion. |
Do not rely on this table alone
Eligibility is defined nationally and changes from time to time. Branch 370 will link to the authoritative text on the Legion national and Ontario Command sites rather than paraphrase it here — TBC: the branch will confirm whether to publish local eligibility text or link out. Before publishing, the Ontario Command link must be re-verified: it did not resolve when re-checked during research.
How to join
- Come to the branch during lounge hours and ask. This is genuinely the easiest route.
- Telephone 613-652-4516 and ask for the membership chair.
- Or apply through the Royal Canadian Legion at legion.ca and name Branch 370, Iroquois as your branch.
What it costs
Annual dues are set by the branch within the national framework. TBC — current dues to be confirmed. Ask at the bar or email membership@legionbranch370.ca; nobody will make a fuss about it.
What members get
- Access to the lounge and branch events.
- A vote at general meetings, in the voting categories.
- Reciprocal access at other Legion branches across Canada.
- The knowledge that a hall in a village of 1,400 stays open partly because you joined.
Members’ area
Branch 370 operates a Branch Office for executive members and volunteers — membership roll, hall bookings, raffle administration. It is a demonstration in this build, and signing in requires a branch account.
