Remembrance & the Poppy Fund

This part of the site has nothing to sell you. There is no raffle here, and there never will be.

Poppy Fund donations are separate from raffle tickets

The Poppy Fund is a trust fund governed by strict national rules and used only to support Veterans and their families. It is entirely separate from Branch 370’s 50/50 raffle. Poppy Fund donations cannot be made through the raffle purchase flow.

Buying a raffle ticket does not donate to the Poppy Fund. Donating to the Poppy Fund does not enter you in the raffle.

What the Poppy Fund is for

“Through your donations to the Legion Poppy Fund, the Legion provides financial assistance and support to Veterans, including Canadian Armed Forces and RCMP, and their families who are in need.”

Poppy Trust Funds are held in trust at each branch and command level of the Legion. They may not be used as, or in place of, general or any other branch funds, and any use must focus on directly supporting Veterans and their families.

The approved uses are narrow and enumerated: campaign supplies, local campaign administration, the two minutes’ Wave of Silence, a limited share of the cost of a bugler or piper for Remembrance Day, service-officer expenses, and direct assistance to Veterans and their families. Alcoholic beverages are expressly not authorised. Where a branch spends improperly, it must repay the amount into the Poppy Fund out of general funds.

Branch executives must also report campaign results and the disposition of funds publicly, through local media.

The branch marks Remembrance Day each 11 November. Details of the ceremony — time, route and cenotaph location — will be published here once confirmed for the coming year.

Donating to the Poppy Fund

Donations are accepted in person at the branch and through the Poppy campaign canvass each autumn.

If the branch introduces online Poppy Fund donations, they will run through a separate mechanism from raffle ticket sales, clearly labelled as a donation and not a raffle entry, with its own disclosure about receipting.

Are Poppy Fund donations tax-receiptable?

Only where a receipt is issued by a properly registered entity. Branch 370 is not currently shown as CRA-registered, so we will not promise a receipt we cannot issue. Ask at the branch before donating if a receipt matters to you.

The poppy is a protected symbol

The poppy, the Legion badge and the Legion name are protected marks, and their use requires permission. The motif on this page is placeholder artwork, not the poppy symbol. Approved artwork will replace it once written permission from Command is on file.
